New players welcome to pre-season football training

Bourton and Frankton Football Club have begun preparations for the 2021/22 football season with the return to pre-season training and are inviting new players to join them for the forthcoming campaign.

With a history spanning over 100 years, Bourton and Frankton are one of the oldest and few remaining village football clubs in existence in the local area. For the new season, the club, based in the village of Bourton-on-Dunsmore near Rugby, will again be playing in Division 3 of the Coventry Alliance Football League on Saturday afternoons.

As an FA Charter Status Club, it continues to offer excellent facilities and continues to be recognised as having one of the best pitches and playing surfaces in the region outside of non-league football. In addition to changing facilities and showers, Bourton and Frankton’s training facilities have been further boosted with the completion of an upgrade to its floodlighting system.

As well as enjoying a thriving social scene, club training is held every Tuesday evening 7:00pm to 9:00pm (meet 6.45pm) throughout the course of the season at their ground on Main Street, Bourton-on-Dunsmore.

Bourton and Frankton have an excellent track record over the years of developing and bringing through young talent. With that in mind, they are again keen to hear from and welcome players aged 16 years and over including those who are looking to make the transition from junior/youth or Sunday football into Saturday adult/senior level.

If you are interested in joining Bourton and Frankton FC for the coming football season and would like further information, please contact Malcolm Smith on 07982 835571 or Stuart McQuillan on 07852 999890.

Club ties knot on sponsorship deal with historic Bourton Hall.

Bourton and Frankton Football and Cricket Club have secured a sponsorship deal with neighbouring historic country house venue Bourton Hall.

The 2020-21 football season may have been disrupted by Covid and the current cricket season is being affected by various restrictions, but we have been busy behind the scenes by forming a partnership with the prestigious 18th century venue nearby.

Bourton Hall is part of Country House Weddings Limited, a family-owned and run wedding venue group that has six exclusive-use venues across the UK.  The venue, which is also based in the village of Bourton-on-Dunsmore, have committed an undisclosed financial sum to the village club to assist them in further improving the playing and training facilities for both the football and cricket sections.

In return, Bourton and Frankton FC and CC will promote Bourton Hall on their football leisurewear and cricket playing shirts, along with display banners at the club’s Main Street ground and a regular programme of coverage and promotion across this website and our social media platforms of Facebook and Twitter

Speaking about the sponsorship agreement, Bourton and Frankton Chairman, Malcolm Smith, said

“It is very good news that a new and developing local business has expressed an interest and desire to support the club. We hope that as the present difficulties subside both Bourton Hall and our club are able to get back on track and enjoy our respective interests.

Nick Bramer, Director & Co-Owner of Country House Weddings, said;

“We’re excited to be able to support such a long-standing grass-roots sports club as we recognise the benefits such initiatives can bring to the local community. Our company strives to develop mutually beneficial relationships with the communities where our wedding venues are located – In Bourton-on-Dunsmore, we are privileged to take on the ownership of one of the area’s most prestigious halls and, in return, we are confident that this sponsorship agreement will be the first of many & varied benefits that our business will bring to the local area & people”

Smith added,

“The Football and Cricket Club appreciate the support we have received and hope we can develop this relationship for our mutual benefit going forwards”.

Willoughby defeat

Club Friendly

Bourton and Frankton v Willoughby

Willoughby 201 for 7

Bourton and Frankton 110 all out

Willoughby won by 91 runs.

Sunday’s renewal  between Bourton and Willoughby was sadly not befitting of previous meetings stretching back many years as the visitors took the honours at The Field.

Played in exceptionally warm conditions, the visitors batted either side of England’s Euros football game and made 201 for 7 off their 40 overs. Alex Hislop made 45 with Ashley Rayner benefitting from some of his side’s generous umpiring to top score with 74 not out.  For the Bourton attack, the wickets were shared amongst the bowlers with Mark Whitehead’s 2 for 25 the leading effort.

Whitehead also led the way with the bat for Bourton making 32 but the loss of early wickets severely dented their run chase.  Backed by some rather unnecessary on-field chat about the playing conditions and opposition, the visitors took wickets at regular intervals to kill the game. Youngster Aiden Porter one of few to emerge with some credit playing the game the right way and taking three wickets late on as Bourton were bowled out for 110.

All smiles at Presentation Evening

Bourton and Frankton FC and CC looked back on something of a disruptive year on the field and a positive one off it at the club’s Annual Presentation Evening on Friday night.

Held this year by kind arrangement at local hospitality venue Dunsmore House, club members and officials gathered together to reflect on something of a stop-start football season in the Coventry Alliance Football League thanks to the pandemic. For the second season running the lockdown restrictions saw the season abandoned and delcared null and void – league table at the time of season ending HERE

Despite the 2020/21 league season being curtailed, B & F were entered into the Peter Toogood internal cup when restrictions were eased. Unfortunately the side did not make it through the group stages to the knockout rounds, but there was at least some satisfaction by finishing the season on a high with a victory (over Yelvertoft).

From the club’s cricket side, the 2020 season of friendlies suffered a two month delay and only started in July once clearance was given by the ECB.

Player’s Player of the Year – Michael Lunn

Long Itchington 168 for 9

Bourton and Frankton won by 67 runs

There was another win on the board for Bourton and Frankton on Sunday as they recorded a 67 run success over Long Itchington.

There were useful contributions and partnerships throughout with Dale Coles leading the way with 80, putting on a second wicket stand of 99 with George Smith (49), ahead of Mark Whitehead making 43 not out who along with Jake Quinney (23 not out) added an unbeaten 64 for the sixth wicket. For Long Itchington, Andy Hart returned figures of 2 for 18.

In reply, Matt Southall and Greg Campbell led the Long Itchington batting with 38 and 35 respectively, however Bourton kept their progress in check with some tight bowling and by taking wickets at regular intervals. Pat McManus was economical as ever with 1 for 15, along with Quinney taking 2 for 35 off an eight over spell, Mick Waller (3 for 40), Danny McManus (2 for 2) and Nigel Kidd (1 for 13) keeping the visitors at a distance, despite Long Itchington’s Freddie Hart making an entertaining late cameo with 19 off 11 balls.

Positive end to season with Yelvertoft success

There was a pleasing end to the club’s 2020-21 season last night.

A 2-1 win in our final group match of the Peter Toogood Cup away at Yelvertoft, with Sean Ryder getting both.

It’s not enough to progress to the latter knockout stages of the competition and means it is finally an end to what again has been a disrupted and disjointed season.

However it was a good win and it’s always good to end the season on a positive note, giving something to take forward into next season.
