Bourton and Frankton 161 for 9

Marton 157 all out

Bourton and Frankton won by 4 runs.

Batting first, Bourton posted 161 for 9 off their allotted 40 overs, with Mark Whitehead leading the way, narrowly missing out on three figures by making 95.  Only two other bats made it into double figures – George Smith and Michael Hoey – as Premakumar Thurairajah took three wickets and Lawrence Truslove and Tanveer Devgun claimed a pair apiece.

In reply, opener Rubans Sugartharubans was the mainstay of the host’s innings with 81 and together with Damian Slater’s opportunist 30 looked to be steering Marton to victory as Bourton toiled. However once both were removed in quick succession, the visitor’s chipped away at the host’s middle order and into the tail;  Whitehead taking two wickets, Pat McManus one with Nigel Kidd taking three.

It was left to the last pair of Truslove and Dan Liddle to try and inch their way to the target with 10 runs needed and plenty of overs to spare. However it was Bourton’s nerve which held as Quinney took the last wicket, bowling Truslove to end Marton’s valiant last stand four runs shy of the target.
