Cricket: Bounce back for Bourton with Oakfield victory

Club Friendly

Oakfield and Rowland United v Bourton and Frankton

Oakfield and Rowland United 142 all out

Bourton and Frankton 144 for 2

Bourton and Frankton won by 8 wickets

Bourton and Frankton recovered from the previous week’s heavy defeat to register a comfortable eight wicket victory on the road at Oakfield and Rowland United.

In what was their first away fixture since their Suffolk tour in June, the visitors looked set to be chasing a 200+ total as O and R’s openers Liam Denipitiya and Chris Goodwin both made half centuries. But after their dismissals for 51 and 50 respectively, only Jonny Shuttleworth made it into double figures for the hosts as Bourton struck back with the ball. Mick Waller came away with figures of 4 for 13 with Richard Parsons taking 2 for 27 and Stuart McQuillan returning to mop the tail with 2 for 33 as Oakfield and Rowland were bowled out for 142.

Bourton’s reply saw Dale Coles and Parsons lead the way, Coles top scoring with 60 and Parsons falling three short of a half-ton. But an unbeaten 25 from George Smith against his Saturday club eased Bourton to their target in just over 25 overs with no further alarms.

Cricket: Playdon knock not enough to save B and F from Marton defeat

Club Friendly

Bourton and Frankton v Marton

Marton 264 for 7

Bourton and Frankton 148 all out

Marton won by 116 runs

A knock of 72 from James Playdon was not enough to prevent Bourton and Frankton from suffering their heaviest defeat of the season so far on Sunday as Marton completed a 116 run success at The Field.

Batting first the visitors recovered from an early loss to rack up a target of 264 for 7.  Opener Rubans Sugartharubans was initially instrumental with a fine boundary-ridden knock of 96, backed by Jay Singh making an equally hard-hitting 81. Bourton’s attack saw Karl Quinney stem the initial flow by returning 2 for 26 off 8 overs with George Smith mopping up late on with 3 for 67 and Stuart McQuillan taking 2 for 29.

Already missing three of their regular top order batsmen, the host’s reply did not get to a great start as they were reduced to 20 for 3 early on, Alan Evans taking two of his eventual 3 for 32. Mick Waller initially held firm with 17 before Malcolm Smith hit 20 in mid-order. James Playdon was to then add further substance to the home side’s innings with his 72 including nine boundaries and two sixes proving Bourton’s top score. However his departure, the third of Lawrence Truslove’s trio of wickets for 18, signalled the final knockings of the host’s innings as they were bowled out for 148.

Cricket: Waller and Parsons star in victory over Braunston

Club Friendly

Bourton and Frankton v Braunston Paddox

Braunston Paddox 161 all out

Bourton and Frankton 167 for 2

Bourton and Frankton won by 8 wickets

Four wickets for Mick Waller and a knock of 64 for Richard Parsons helped Bourton and Frankton record a comfortable friendly win over visitors Braunston Paddox at The Field on Sunday.

In what was the first meeting of the two clubs for several decades, the visitors opted to bat first in the hot conditions having won the toss and saw opener Steve Haynes make 42 and Nathan Kemp add a useful 35 along with skipper Chris Eyles’ 23. However Waller’s four wicket haul which included hat-trick went through the middle or lower order to curtail Braunston to progressing past their eventual 161 all out in the 37th over. Waller finishing with 4 for 22, McManus 2 for 38 with a wicket apiece for the other bowlers used of Stuart McQuillan, Nigel Kidd and Mark Whitehead.

In reply, Parsons and Dale Coles got Bourton off to another positive start with an opening stand of 63 before the latter departed for 32.  George Smith joined Parsons and together they added 74 for the second wicket before Parsons was next to go after hitting 10 4s and a six in his 56 ball knock. However Smith remained and guided Bourton over the line in the 23rd over, finishing on 48 not out as the hosts closed down an eight wicket victory.

Cricket: Smith continues form in Tachbrook success

Club Friendly

Bourton and Frankton v Bishops Tachbrook

Bishops Tachbrook 153 all out

Bourton and Frankton 154 for 3

Bourton and Frankton won by 7 wickets

An unbeaten knock of 86 from George Smith went some way to seeing Bourton and Frankton record a comfortable victory over Bishops Tachbrook at The Field on Sunday.

Smith’s innings came after the visitors had batted first and recovered from a perilous position of 8 for 3 in the opening stages as Pat McManus nabbed a trio of wickets inside nine balls. Nevertheless as Bourton took opportunity to throw the ball around their bowlers, Tachbrook dug in and managed to record a competitive total in the searing heat. Duckett made 31 and Hipkins 41 before their ranks were bolstered by late arrivals including Sami who made 37. Stu McQuillan and Mick Waller both took two further wickets for Bourton as Tachbrook closed on 153 all out.

In reply, Rich Parsons and Dale Coles got the hosts off to a steady start before the former departed for 16. That brought Smith to the crease and with Coles the pair continued the chase in good time before the latter edged behind for 27. The first drinks break could not break the momentum as Smith dominated the strike and finding the rope with regularity, his eventual 86 not out coming from 45 balls with 18 of those being boundaries as Bourton reached their total in just over 20 overs.
