Whitnash quick fire first half burst means second successive home defeat for B and F

Coventry Alliance Football League Division 3

Bourton and Frankton 0 Whitnash Town 3

(played Saturday 24th October 2020)

A second successive home defeat for Bourton means they still go searching for their first win of the season after Whitnash Town completed a league double with a 3-0 victory at The Field on Saturday.

Three goals towards the end of the first half did all the damage and put the visitors in control at the break, this after both sides had shared exchanges in the opening half hour in the face of a persistent breeze and light rain.

Whitnash took advantage of the elements at their back in the first period to hit Bourton with three quick goals, the first coming on 31 minutes before a second came direct from a corner shortly after.

Going into half time at 2-0 would have given the home side hope of clawing their way back but their challenge was made all the more difficult minutes before the interval when Whitnash hit them with a third goal from a well-taken strike.

Bourton needed a quick response after the restart but if anything it was the visitors who went close to extending their lead with two good chances inside the opening ten minutes of the second period.  The hosts did show some resolve and managed to apply a bit of pressure to the Whitnash goal either side of the hour mark, albeit seeing one effort clip the post and another well-saved by the Whitnash goalkeeper.

But that was about as good and as close as it got for the home side as they lacked creativity and never looked likely to breach the Whitnash rearguard as the game meandered to an uneventful finish; the damage already inflicted before the break.

  • This Saturday Bourton and Frankton have a third home league game on the bounce when Kenilworth Wardens Reserves are the visitors to The Field, for a 2.15pm kick off.
